Hamakaze No Ie

浜風の家Hamakaze House was built after the Great Awaji Hanshin Earthquake from donations received from many generous donors and is operated by Nozomi Kai Social Welfare Organization as a Children's Welfare Facility

It functions also as a carehouse for the orphans and children disadvantaged by the Earthquake.

Outline (Philosophy)

Hamakaze House was built to provide care for orphans of the Great Awaji Hanshin Earthquake of 1995 after which renowned Japnese Drama producer, Mr. Yamagata proposed of having such a facility, and largely through the efforts of famous Naoki Price winning author Mr. Giichi Fujimoto in getting generous donations nationwide. The timber used in the facility (loghouse) was donated by Totsugawa village in Nara Prefecture. The facility was opened 4 years after the earthquake on Jan 17, 1999

The facility is a 400 sq mtr brick colored 2 storey loghouse. It consists of a wood deck which faces the sea (Pacific Ocean), an atrium where children can freely paint or make crafts, a library stocked with childrens books, a computer room with an internet connection and 5 computers, consultation rooms, and a big hall with space for the children to play. Each month has events in which the children can participate.

At the entrance is a statue of a young girl with carnation in her hand. This statue was made by sculpter Mr. Camilo Ponya who lives nearby in Takarazuka. It took him 1 year to sculpt this figure and it represents a child facing upto her lost parents and is meant to provide a message of hope to the orphans.

Based on childrens welfare law clause 40, we provide free space/time/opportunity to children to play, learn, study, create and through this to discover themselves. We encourage the children to find friends and through each other to have a "catharsis effect", to purge their negativeness.
